Athirappilly Waterfalls
Athirapilly, a scenic village near the Sholayar forest in Kerala, is one of South India's most stunning landscapes. Located in the Western Ghats—a major biodiversity hotspot—it's home to the famous Athirapilly Waterfalls, considered the largest in Asia. Thumboormuzhi dam and the butterfly park located near to it are one among the most famous tourist spot in Thrissur. Thumboormuzhi dam is built across the Chalakudy River and the park is on the banks of the river.Thumboormuzhi is also a natural habitat of butterflies. Almost every species of butterfly in the world harbors at Thumboormuzhi. At Thumboormuzhi Butterfly Park, you can enjoy the nature to its fullest and see how natures' two different creations, butterfly and flowers converse each other.About 148 species of Butterflies can be seen in the park. If you reach early morning you can see bigger butterfly similar to birds. During the monsoon, the biggest of the butterflies visit the park and is the unique feature of the butterfly park in Thumboormuzhi. The park also includes river view, virgin forest view, a beautiful garden and children's park.
Charpa Waterfalls
Charpa Waterfalls is a stunning yet relatively small waterfall located in the Thrissur district of Kerala, just 3 kilometers from the famous Athirapilly Waterfalls, en route to Vazhachal and its Inspection Bungalow. Nestled within the lush greenery of the Western Ghats, this seasonal waterfall offers a breathtaking view, especially during the monsoon months. With a slanting height of approximately 63 meters and a width of 28.3 meters, Charpa creates a spectacular curtain of water that often splashes directly onto the roadside during heavy rains. Its close proximity to the road allows travelers to experience the cascading beauty up close, making it a perfect quick-stop destination for nature lovers and photographers exploring the Athirapilly-Vazhachal scenic route.
Malakkappara
Malakkappara is a serene, offbeat hill station nestled on the border of Kerala and Tamil Nadu, falling under the Thrissur district. Located about 86 km from Chalakudy via the scenic State Highway 21—passing through Thumboormuzhi, Athirappilly, Vazhachal, and Sholayar—Malakkappara offers an enchanting drive through dense forests and tea-covered hills. It is also 89 km from Pollachi via Valparai and the majestic Solaiyar Dam. Known for its untouched natural charm, Malakkappara remains a relatively unexplored gem.
